Bayview Yacht Club, known as BYRA, is the clubhouse of the Bayview Yacht Racing Association on Pittwater Road at Bayview, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The association formed in November 1949; the present clubhouse opened in 1957 and gained its extended deck in 1971-72. It is a not-for-profit sailing club: one hall of about 144 square metres with a vaulted ceiling, a deck over the water, and a beach and jetty below. Ceremonies run on the sand or in Riddle Reserve next door.
We photographed Emma and Sean’s wedding here, with vows on the sand and a walk along the jetty at sunset. Bayview’s beach faces Pittwater rather than open ocean, so the water stays calm and the ceremony is audible, a real advantage for vows on a beach. Late afternoon the light comes low across the bay and the jetty gives clean, uncluttered lines.
