Palace Royal Restaurant, also known by its Vietnamese name Hoàng Gia, is a reception restaurant in Footscray, about 5 km west of Melbourne’s CBD. Footscray is Melbourne’s best-known Vietnamese food district, with more than 30 Vietnamese restaurants among over 130 eating places in the suburb, and its banquet rooms host a steady run of wedding dinners. A few minutes away is Footscray Park, a heritage-listed 15-hectare Edwardian park with ponds, palms and stone work that looks across the Maribyrnong River to Flemington Racecourse.
Veri photographed David and Tina’s wedding reception here after their portraits in Footscray Park, 33 frames covering the couple’s entrance, the table rounds and the toasts. A banquet-style reception has its own rhythm: courses arrive fast, the couple visit every table, and the best pictures are in the greetings and the laughter between speeches rather than in staged moments.
For David and Tina it was the reception venue; the day also took in Footscray Park in Footscray.
