Christmas Hills Mechanics Hall sits on Ridge Road at Christmas Hills, about 35 km north-east of Melbourne and just out of Yarra Glen, on a ridge that looks over the Yarra Valley. The first Mechanics’ Institute here went up in 1877, burnt in 1893 and was rebuilt in 1895. The Harold Muir Hall was added a century later, and after the 2009 bushfires the old 1895 hall was pulled down and rebuilt, reopening in October 2013. It is run by a volunteer committee.
It is a plain, honest space: two function rooms, the One Tree Hill Room and the Sugarloaf Room, a kitchen, and a hire arrangement that runs from a single day to a full weekend. Couples bring in their own styling and catering, which suits a relaxed country reception.
