Metropolis Events is a large loft-style function room on the upper level of the Southgate precinct on Southbank Boulevard, on the south bank of the Yarra. Floor-to-ceiling windows nine metres high look across the river to Flinders Street Station, Federation Square and Princes Bridge, and an outdoor terrace runs along the water. Inside there is a 17-metre dome ceiling, brass bars and marble. It seats up to 334 for dinner or 1,100 standing.
Veri has photographed and filmed three weddings here, one of them both. A Metropolis day is a city day, with no car needed between locations: ceremony against the windows, drinks on the terrace as the lights come on across the river, then the reception under the dome.
