A 1914 timber church, a weathered barn and a courtyard bar on the Mornington-Tyabb Road
The Peacock Estate is a small rustic wedding venue on Mornington-Tyabb Road at Tyabb, on the eastern side of the Mornington Peninsula. It is anchored by a refurbished timber church built in 1914, which takes the ceremony, and a large weathered metal barn for the reception, with a courtyard and outdoor bar between them and a former schoolroom with a play area for children. Capacity is around 100 to 120 guests, one wedding a day, with couples bringing their own caterers and drinks.
Veri photographed Kate and Matt’s wedding here with the ceremony, portraits and reception all on the estate. It suits couples who want to style the place themselves: the church interior is plain timber, the barn is a blank shell that takes festoon lights and long tables, and the courtyard fills with guests the moment the ceremony ends. Portraits work around the church door, the barn walls and the outdoor grounds.
The church interior is timber, so it reads warm but darker than a garden ceremony: plan for the doorway light on the exit and a fast lens inside. Late afternoon sun on the weathered barn is warm and even for the couple, and the courtyard bar is where the candid frames happen. With the church and the barn both under cover, rain barely changes the day. The gallery above is Kate and Matt’s wedding at The Peacock Estate.
