Camp Sunnystones is a 50-acre bush property at Merrimu, on the edge of Bacchus Marsh about 45 minutes west of Melbourne, built around a stone homestead among the gums with views to the Macedon Ranges. Weddings take the whole site from Friday afternoon to Sunday: ceremony on the Lower Terrace with its fire pit and valley view, dinner in the 26-metre stone Homestead Hall for up to 100 seated, a lawn sized for a tipi, a festoon-lit courtyard, and nine ensuite rooms sleeping 90.
We photographed Kelly and Tory’s weekend here, and have filmed another couple’s since. A weekend-long wedding photographs differently: guests settle in, guards drop, and by the second hour everyone forgets the camera exists. The golden-hour walk through the paddocks gave us the frames; the campfire gave us everything else.
