The Royal Hotel is the community-owned pub on Best Street in Sea Lake, a Mallee wheat town of about six hundred people roughly 350 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. Locals call it the Top Pub; it has stood since 1910 and now has seventeen rooms, a main bar, a sports bar and a beer garden, with a kitchen doing pub classics from local produce. Lake Tyrrell, Victoria’s largest salt lake, lies six kilometres north of town, with a viewing deck on the Sea Lake side.
Veri photographed Bethany and Dale’s wedding from getting ready at the Royal, through the ceremony and portraits at the Pink Lake reserve on Lake Tyrrell, and back to the hotel for the reception. It is a country wedding in the plainest sense: the pub as home base, the lake for the pictures, and everyone back at the Royal for the night.
For Bethany and Dale it was the getting-ready and reception venue; the day also took in Lake Tyrrell in Sea Lake.
