Lake Tyrrell and Royal Hotel Sea Lake · Mallee, Victoria
Country Wedding · Region: VIC - Mallee · City: Melbourne · Venues: Lake Tyrrell · Royal Hotel Sea Lake
We started at Royal Hotel Sea Lake for Bethany and Dale’s preparations, then followed them to the grassy shore of Lake Tyrrell. The circular arbour, woven rugs and red sofa gave us a colourful ceremony setting, but the guests’ laughter made the moments. After the petals, we took the couple into the pink-toned shallows and let the water and sky fill the frame. Back at the hotel, a three-piece band had the verandah buzzing. The shift from wide-open Mallee lake to lively country-pub reception was half the fun.

Preparation and reception: Royal Hotel Sea Lake. Ceremony and lake portraits: Pink Lake Reserve, Lake Tyrrell. Street portraits: near the Royal Hotel in Sea Lake.
Bethany came along the woven-rug aisle towards Dale beneath the circular arbour. We held a close frame for his reaction, then stepped back to bring the white chairs, red sofa and guests at the lakeshore into the story. Petals flew as the couple walked out together. Later, the mint-and-white van made a playful portrait stop before we went into Lake Tyrrell’s shallow water for wider frames with clouds reflected around them. Back in Sea Lake, Bethany changed into a shorter dress and boots, the three-piece band was playing on the Royal Hotel verandah, and Dale twirled her between the brick arches.
Lake Tyrrell looked pink and reflective on Bethany and Dale’s day, but water levels and weather can change it. We work with the colour and light we find, not a promised version of the lake. The open shoreline gave us room for wide portraits; back at Royal Hotel Sea Lake, the balcony, brick arches and timber stairs gave us a different setting before the reception filled the verandah. If you’re planning the same lake-to-town route, leave time for the drive and for portraits at both stops.
