Russo Estate is a family-owned winery and restaurant on Holden Road at Diggers Rest, in the Sunbury district north-west of Melbourne. The restaurant opened in 2016 and the estate grows Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Ceremony spots are spread around the grounds: a four-tier waterfall, arches in the garden and the wine garden, and a spot under a big gum tree, with a marquee option that looks over the waterfall. Receptions seat up to about 300.
Veri has photographed two weddings at Russo Estate: Kirsty and Brendan’s, and Loren and Tim’s, both with the ceremony and reception on the estate. The grounds are the appeal for a photographer, with wetlands, grasses and open country around the vines and mountains in the distance, so the portraits can move from the water to the rows without a car. The reception rooms are built to bring that outlook inside.
For Bernadette and Shaun it was the reception venue; the day also took in St Mary’s.
