Formal beds for structure, old trees for shade, and a lawn for the vows
A garden wedding puts the ceremony on a lawn and lets the planting do the styling: rose beds and pergolas for the formal frames, mature trees for shade at 3pm, and paths that lead the couple somewhere new every fifty metres.
We photographed Becky and George’s portraits among the formal rose beds and pergolas of Old Parliament House Gardens and across the lawns of Senate Gardens in Canberra, after their ceremony at St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. In Melbourne, Frances and Tim married at Gardens House, an 1854 house inside the Royal Botanic Gardens, and walked to The Terrace for the reception while we drifted from the oak lawn to the lake edge as the light lengthened.

Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.
In motion, unposed · FR 15AYou don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.
A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.
A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.
Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.
Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.
Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.
We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.
Dappled light under a tree is the trap of a garden wedding: at midday it puts blotches across faces. We move the ceremony frames to open shade or wait until the sun drops below the canopy. Rose gardens photograph best from low and close, with the beds stacking up behind the couple. Most garden venues keep a marquee or a house room as the rain plan. The galleries below are the garden weddings we have photographed in full.
