Vows by the Crow’s Ash tree, a pond, vine rows and a hilltop that looks all the way to the coast.
Maleny Manor is a private wedding estate on Landsborough-Maleny Road in Maleny, on the Blackall Range in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, about ninety minutes north of Brisbane. Opened in 1989 as a guesthouse in Federation and Queensland vernacular style, it sits on thirty acres with views east to the coast and Mount Coolum. Ceremonies run beside the Crow’s Ash tree, in the sandstone pavilion or on the Helipad lawn, and receptions are held inside the Manor, with the Loft for getting ready and seven ensuite rooms upstairs.
We photographed Jamie and Tim’s garden wedding here: whisky on the veranda, a bride lit by the Loft’s gabled windows, vows under a white rose arch with the ocean on the horizon, then portraits by the pond, through the vine rows and on the hilltop above the view.
Cloud rolls up the range from the coast and clears again within minutes, so we watch the sky through the ceremony and catch the arch against blue when it comes. The pond, vine rows, rainforest edge and hilltop lawn are all a short walk apart, so a full portrait session never needs a car. Save the hilltop for the last light before sunset, and bring flat shoes for the hill.
