Thorndon Park Reserve is the 10.7-hectare park on Hamilton Terrace at Paradise, in Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs. It began as the city’s first reservoir, built between 1857 and 1860 behind a 13-metre earth dam, and supplied Adelaide until safety concerns closed it in 1977; the dam came down in 1986 and the park opened the same year. Campbelltown City Council calls it its principal park: a lake with a 1.45-kilometre perimeter path, terraced ponds and wetlands, an amphitheatre, a rotunda, lawns and a kiosk.
Veri photographed Sanita and Rav’s ceremony here, a 356-frame Adelaide wedding built around the reserve. The amphitheatre and rotunda are the spots the council hires out for private events, and the lawns run down to the water, so the ceremony, the family groups and the couple’s portraits can all happen without moving the cars.
