Kate and Wes's wedding at Paynes Rise Wines in Seville moved from the shade of a big ceremony tree to the open vine rows, then into a reception that came alive under fairy lights. We caught Kate's grin as she faced Wes, pulled back to let the Yarra Valley vineyard fill their portraits, and stayed close for the laughter during the speeches. After dark, we stepped outside with them for a firelit portrait.

A Yarra Valley winery wedding beneath the trees

Ceremony & reception: Paynes Rise Wines, Seville, Yarra Valley.

We began in Seville, with Wes getting ready at Ainsworth Estate and Kate at Merrigum Cottage. At Paynes Rise, two flower girls led the way down the grass aisle before Kate came through the trees. We stayed close for the smiles and rings, then stepped back to hold the couple, guests and canopy in one frame. After the ceremony, Kate and Wes raised a glass beside a wine barrel and walked between the vines. We made a quieter, wide portrait with the two of them small among the rows. Speeches brought everyone inside; later, we followed the dancing beneath the fairy lights and took Kate and Wes out to the fire pit.

Photographing a wedding at Paynes Rise

Paynes Rise Wines sits on a north-facing vineyard slope in Seville, but Kate and Wes's wedding gave us more than vine rows. The ceremony tree let us move between close expressions and a wide view of everyone gathered beneath it. For portraits, the rows gave us strong lines and plenty of green. Inside, timber and wine barrels brought texture to the speeches, with fairy lights over the dancing. Outside after dark, the fire pit gave us a different frame without leaving the property.
