The sunniest capital, a river through the middle and the sun going down into the Indian Ocean

Perth’s centre was founded in 1829 on the Swan River, and the city still turns toward the water: Elizabeth Quay on Perth Water, and Kings Park on Mount Eliza above it, with Fraser Avenue’s lemon-scented gums of 1938 and the State War Memorial looking over the river to the city. Perth Town Hall of 1870 and the Cultural Centre anchor the grid. It is Australia’s sunniest capital, with hot dry summers, mild wet winters and the Fremantle Doctor arriving from the south-west on summer afternoons.

Couples marry in Kings Park, on the South Perth foreshore, at the State Buildings and the Supreme Court Gardens, in the Swan Valley wineries inland and at Cottesloe, where the beach faces west and the sun sets into the ocean, with Fremantle’s limestone port 19 km down the river. We travel to Perth for weddings and pre-wedding sessions, including Claire and George’s: church vows in Subiaco, portraits at Cottesloe and in the Supreme Court Gardens, and a reception at Perth Town Hall. We are available across the city, the coast and the valley.

How to prepare for your wedding photos (without overthinking it)

Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.

1. Be yourselves — that's where the magic is

You don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.

2. Build buffer time into your timeline

A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.

3. Choose locations that feel like you

A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.

4. Consider an unplugged ceremony

Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.

5. Get ready in calm, light-filled spaces

Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.

6. Keep a drink and snacks nearby

Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.

7. Trust the process

We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.

Kings Park’s lookouts face west, so the 90 minutes before sunset are the ones to hold for portraits, with the war memorial precinct for the city view and the Botanic Garden paths for shade. Elizabeth Quay works at twilight, when the towers reflect in the water. Cottesloe’s sunset is the classic frame, and quieter in winter. September brings the wildflowers and the Kings Park Festival. Plan around the afternoon sea breeze: hair, veils and marquee sides all feel it.
