Coral Sea Resort Wedding Photos

A jetty over the Coral Sea, palms at the water’s edge, and the Whitsunday islands on the horizon

Coral Sea Resort is a waterfront resort on Ocean View Avenue at Airlie Beach, the mainland town for the Whitsundays in north Queensland. It sits on the waterfront on the Bicentennial Walkway, between Coral Sea Marina and the town centre, with tropical gardens, a 25-metre pool and its own jetty over the water, looking across the Coral Sea to the Whitsunday Islands. Ceremonies are held on the jetty, on the beach among the palms, or on the Upper Lawn; receptions run from the Jetty Landing for ten to the Ballroom and Terrace for 120 seated.

We photographed and filmed Anna and Brendan’s wedding here: vows on the Upper Lawn in front of thirty guests, portraits on the rope swing and along the shore, and a reception on the jetty as the sun went down behind the hills across the bay. A Coral Sea Resort day stays on the water: ceremony on the jetty, drinks on the lawn, dinner in the ballroom with the terrace open to the bay. Most of the outdoor spaces wrap up by ten, so the timeline runs earlier than a city wedding and the portraits fall inside the good light.

How to prepare for your wedding photos (without overthinking it)

Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.

1. Be yourselves — that's where the magic is

You don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.

2. Build buffer time into your timeline

A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.

3. Choose locations that feel like you

A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.

4. Consider an unplugged ceremony

Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.

5. Get ready in calm, light-filled spaces

Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.

6. Keep a drink and snacks nearby

Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.

7. Trust the process

We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.

The jetty is the frame everyone books for, and it works twice: once for the ceremony and again at dusk when the islands go blue and the water flattens. Tropical light is fierce through the middle of the day, so beach portraits sit at first light or in the last hour. The palms on the beach edge give the only shade. Wind on the jetty is the variable for veils, and there are noise limits over the water. The Ballroom and Terrace is the rain plan.
