Vows on the sand, beers on the lawn and a balcony party right above the surf
Horizons sits on level 2 of the South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club, at the quieter southern end of Maroubra Beach in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Top Cat Catering runs the room: floor-to-ceiling windows, a private glass balcony over the water and space for up to 250 guests. You can marry on the sand in front of the club, on the headland lawn beside it or up on the balcony, and all three are a short walk apart, so the whole day flows without anyone getting back in a car.
Michele and Nico’s Horizons South Maroubra wedding had everything we love about this spot: a beach ceremony framed by floor florals and a violin, family photos on the sand, cold beers on the lawn and a dance floor under a fairy-light canopy that never emptied. The ocean found its way into almost every frame, from the first pisco sour to the last toast on the balcony.
Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.
In motion, unposed · FR 15AYou don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.
A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.
A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.
Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.
Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.
Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.
We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.
Maroubra is said to take its name from an Aboriginal word meaning “like thunder”, and the wind here lives up to it: pin the veil for the vows, then let it fly for portraits on the lawn. A late-afternoon ceremony in spring or summer softens the light and still leaves time for family photos on the sand before drinks. The balcony is your wet-weather ceremony plan, and after dark it is the best spot in the house for five quiet minutes together.
