La Mirage Reception & Convention Centre Wedding Photos

A reception centre on the Hume Highway in the north, with the portraits done in a park on the way.

La Mirage Reception & Convention Centre is a function venue on the Hume Highway at Somerton, in Melbourne’s north about 21 km from the CBD. Somerton is a small industrial and business suburb in the City of Hume, and the centre sits on the highway frontage within easy reach of the northern suburbs. It is a reception-centre wedding in the traditional Melbourne sense: the room, the entrance, the speeches and the dancing under one roof.

Veri photographed a wedding at La Mirage, with portraits at Queens Park in Moonee Ponds on the way, and that is the gallery below. This is the usual shape for a large family wedding in the north-west: a ceremony earlier in the day, a park for the couple and the bridal party, then the reception centre for the evening.

Photographing a wedding at La Mirage Reception & Convention Centre

Reception centres are about the room, so I arrive before the guests to photograph the set tables and the cake while the lights are still up, then work the entrance and the first dance with a little flash bounced off the ceiling. The Hume Highway frontage is not a portrait location, which is why the couple went to a park first; Queens Park at Moonee Ponds gave them their portraits. Rain changes nothing here. The gallery above is a La Mirage wedding with its portraits at Queens Park.
