Open lawns above the cliffs of the harbour’s north gateway, eleven kilometres from the city
North Head Sanctuary is the headland reserve at the tip of Manly, about eleven kilometres from the Sydney CBD and managed by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust on the site of the old School of Artillery. Ships have read this headland as the gateway to Port Jackson since 1788. Within it are the Second World War fortifications of North Fort, Australia’s Memorial Walk, the Third Quarantine Cemetery of 1881, and open lawns and walking loops through banksia scrub with long coastal views.
Veri photographed Imogen and Jordan’s ceremony and portraits on the Sanctuary Lawn off Memorial Walk, before their reception at Milestone Events on North Fort Road within the same headland. It is an easy sequence: the ceremony on the grass, the cliff edges and the scrub for photographs, and the reception without leaving the sanctuary.
Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.
In motion, unposed · FR 15AYou don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.
A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.
A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.
Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.
Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.
Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.
We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.
The lawn is open and the wind off the ocean is a factor, so I keep the ceremony set-up simple and shoot into the light for the vows when I can. The lookouts give harbour, city and ocean, and late afternoon is the time for them. The banksia tracks give shelter and a different texture when the light on the lawn is flat, and they are open sunrise to sunset, so portrait timing is fixed by the sun.
