Rock pools and a quiet cove on the edge of Lorne, with the Otways rising straight behind the town
Shelly Beach Reserve is the small beach and foreshore reserve at Lorne on the Great Ocean Road, about 138 kilometres south-west of Melbourne and 65 from Geelong. Lorne sits on Louttit Bay at the mouth of the Erskine River, with the Great Otway National Park climbing straight up behind the town; the road reached here in 1922. Where the main beach is the long patrolled strand in front of the shops, Shelly Beach is the quieter one, known for its rock pools at low tide.
Sarah and Rob married here, then went along to Lorne Beach for portraits and up to The Peak at Lorne Country Club, the golf and tennis club established in 1954, for their reception. That is how a Lorne wedding tends to run: vows on the sand, a wander along the foreshore, and dinner in town or on the hill. Veri photographs weddings all along the Great Ocean Road and travels from Melbourne and Geelong for them.
Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.
In motion, unposed · FR 15AYou don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.
A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.
A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.
Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.
Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.
Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.
We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.
Beach ceremonies at Lorne are permitted through the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority rather than the shire, so sort that early and agree a wet-weather fallback with the reception venue. Aim for mid afternoon: the ranges sit directly behind the town, so the beach loses direct sun well before the day ends, and a low tide opens the rock pools for portraits. Seat guests with the water behind the couple. The gallery below is Sarah and Rob’s wedding, with the ceremony at Shelly Beach Reserve.
