A Coptic Orthodox church in the Belconnen suburb of Kaleen, nine kilometres from the centre of Canberra
St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church is the Coptic parish church for Canberra, in Kaleen in the Belconnen district about 9 kilometres north-north-west of the city centre. Kaleen was gazetted as a suburb in January 1974, takes its name from a Wiradjuri word for water and names its streets after Australian rivers; it is a residential suburb of ovals, cycle paths and two small shops on Maribyrnong Avenue, with a Greek Orthodox church and an Anglican church as well as St Mark’s.
Veri photographed Trish and Chris’s ceremony here, then their portraits at the National Museum of Australia and the reception at The Royal Hotel QBN across the border in Queanbeyan. That is the shape of a Canberra church wedding: the service in the suburbs, the couple’s photographs on the lake, and dinner in town or just over the New South Wales line.
Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.
In motion, unposed · FR 15AYou don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.
A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.
A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.
Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.
Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.
Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.
We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.
A Coptic Orthodox crowning service is long and has its own rhythm, with the crowns and the anointing, so ask beforehand which moments may be photographed and from where. Interiors are usually lit for the icons, so bring fast lenses rather than flash. The suburban street outside gives a plain, open frame for the exit and the family groups, and the museum on the lake is a short drive south. The gallery below is Trish and Chris’s wedding, with the ceremony at St Mark’s.
