Sandstone lanes, an empty harbour forecourt and the bridge before the city wakes up
Sydney’s centre is built around the harbour, and the harbour is at its best early. The Rocks, settled in 1788 and named for its sandstone, keeps its bond stores, the Argyle Cut and Cadmans Cottage under the southern end of the Harbour Bridge, with Campbells Cove on the water and Observatory Hill above. Around the Quay are the Opera House forecourt, the Royal Botanic Garden of 1816 and Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, carved in 1810. By nine the crowds and the ferries own all of it.
We photographed Jeannette and Pierre’s pre-wedding session through The Rocks from first light, starting at Campbells Cove and finishing on Observatory Hill while the light was still soft, and a styled harbour shoot that moved from Mrs Macquarie’s Point to the Opera House forecourt and under the Bridge before eight. Sydney weddings run from our Sydney team, and we photograph and film across the city and the harbour suburbs.
Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.
In motion, unposed · FR 15AYou don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.
A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.
A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.
Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.
Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.
Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.
We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.
First light hits the Bridge pylons and bounces warm light back into the laneways, so the order matters: Mrs Macquarie’s Point for the two-icon frame, the forecourt, then the wharves under the Bridge as the sun clears the deck. The sandstone does half the styling; bring a second outfit for the light change. Observatory Hill and Hyde Park are open and public, so expect company after mid-morning.
