Curzon Hall is a heritage-listed sandstone mansion on Agincourt Road at Marsfield, in Sydney’s north-west. It was built in the 1890s as a private home in Romanesque style, served as St Joseph’s Seminary from 1922 to 1983, and now runs as a function venue on about three acres. The building has wrap-around balconies, sweeping staircases, high ceilings, stained glass and fireplaces inside, and the grounds hold fountains and three garden ceremony spaces: the Garden Chateau, the Enchanted Garden and the Eternal Garden.
Veri photographed Joshua and Matthew’s wedding here, with the ceremony in the gardens and the reception inside. Curzon Hall gives a photographer a lot to work with on one site: the sandstone facade and its arches, the balconies over the gardens, the covered colonnades for soft light, and the water features for the couple. Receptions run in the Grand Banquet Room and a set of smaller rooms, so the scale of the day can vary widely.
