Verandahs, bluestone and old elms, and rooms that were built for candlelight
A heritage wedding puts the day inside a building older than anyone attending: an 1840s homestead, a Victorian house on the state heritage register, a Gothic Revival hall beside a cathedral, an inter-war guesthouse, the director’s residence in a botanic garden. The buildings bring verandahs, bluestone, lace ironwork, high ceilings and gardens planted a century ago, and the care that comes with a listing. Most were built for candlelight rather than a dance floor, which shapes how the reception is lit.
We have photographed 64 heritage weddings so far, among them Camilla and Jason at Flowerdale Estate in Strath Creek, built around an 1842 homestead; Sarah and Jye at Strathvea Guesthouse above Healesville, built in 1921; Shannon and Luke at Sunnybrae Estate in Adelaide, an 1880s bluestone homestead; Heidi and Russell at Yester Grange, the heritage-listed kauri house above Wentworth Falls; Frances and Tim at Gardens House of 1854 in the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne; Pascale and Pasquale in the 1891 Chapter House beside St Paul’s; and Alexa and Chris at Burnt Orange in Mosman, the Mosman Golf Club’s 1924 clubhouse.

Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.
In motion, unposed · FR 15AYou don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.
A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.
A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.
Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.
Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.
Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.
We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.
Old rooms are dark and their windows tall, so we work the doorways and the verandah edge where the light falls one way, with a longer lens for the rings. The gardens were laid out to be seen from the house, so the wide frame comes from the verandah steps. Bluestone warms to honey in the last hour and elm avenues light up from behind, so we save the walk for then. Rain sends everyone to the ballroom, usually the best room anyway. Every one of them is in the galleries below.
