The Old Treasury Building stands on Spring Street at the eastern edge of the Melbourne CBD, beside Treasury Gardens and Parliament House. It was built between 1858 and 1862 to a design by John James Clark, who was nineteen when he drew it, and is counted among the finest Renaissance Revival buildings in Australia; its basement vaults were built for gold-rush bullion. Today it houses a museum and the Victorian Marriage Registry, whose ceremonies take place in the Margaret Craig and Thomas Hyde rooms.
Veri has photographed Greg and Pat’s registry ceremony here, followed by portraits in Carlton Gardens and Hosier Lane, and has used the building’s steps and forecourt as a portrait stop for Shirley and Darren on their Fenix wedding day and for two Melbourne pre-wedding sessions. It is a compact, city-centre venue: the ceremony itself is short and formal, and the street outside becomes the first portrait location.
For Greg and Pat it was the ceremony venue; the day also took in Hosier Lane.
