Riverstone Estate · Coldstream, Yarra Valley, Victoria
Country Wedding · Winery & Vineyard Wedding · Region: VIC - Yarra Valley · City: Melbourne · Venue: Riverstone Estate
We joined Ashlee and Kate for their separate preparations in Chum Creek and Healesville, then followed the day to Riverstone Estate in Coldstream. Ashlee waited beneath the flower-draped arbour while Kate came across the lawn. We photographed their ring exchange and kiss with the valley behind them, then turned towards the aisle as petals flew. Later, we followed them to the riverbank and through the paddocks, returning to the grass when the sky took on its sunset colour. The celebration carried on beneath the homestead verandah lights, with a saxophonist, a DJ and plenty of dancing. Three portraits from their separate engagement shoot at Riverstone are included here too.

Preparation: Kate at an Airbnb in Chum Creek; Ashlee at an Airbnb in Healesville. Commitment ceremony, homestead portraits and reception: Riverstone Estate, Coldstream, Yarra Valley. Outdoor portraits: the estate's grounds, paddocks and riverbank. Engagement photos 001, 103 and 104 were also taken at Riverstone, during a separate shoot.
At the arbour, we kept enough of the valley in the frame to show where Ashlee and Kate had chosen to make their commitment. Then we moved closer for their joined hands, the rings and the moment they kissed. The petal shower gave us a lively walk back through the guests, followed by a big group photo on the lawn. For portraits, we took them beneath the trees and down to the river before following the paths through the grass. We came back outside for a separate set as the sun went down. After the indoor speeches, the saxophonist and DJ drew everyone onto the verandah; by then, the dance floor had a life of its own.
At Riverstone Estate in Coldstream, we could move between the hilltop ceremony lawn, the paddocks and riverbank, and the bluestone homestead without leaving the property. The homestead was built in 1996 using reclaimed materials. For Ashlee and Kate, we made one set of portraits after the commitment ceremony and another when the sunset coloured the grass. That separation gave us different light and left room for the reception. It is worth building the same flexibility into a Yarra Valley winery or country wedding timeline: sunset colour and wildlife are lovely when they appear, but neither can be promised.
