Grand Hyatt Melbourne stands at the eastern end of Collins Street in the CBD, a 33-storey hotel that opened in 1986 with a vast marble-lined foyer and floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the city and the Yarra. The Savoy Ballroom runs to 1,267 square metres and seats around 600 for dinner, with the Mayfair Ballroom, the Residence and smaller rooms alongside. As of late 2026 the hotel says its event floor is closed for upgrade works, so check before booking.
Veri photographed Vivian and Tony’s wedding with the Hyatt at both ends of the day. Both got ready in their rooms upstairs, the ceremony was at Melbourne Town Hall a few blocks west, the portraits ran through the National Gallery of Victoria, and the reception came back to the hotel. It is a very walkable city wedding: everything sits within a short drive or a stroll along Collins and Swanston Streets.
For Vivian and Tony it was the getting-ready and reception venue; the day also took in Melbourne Town Hall and National Gallery of Victoria.
