Bathers’ Pavilion is the old bathing pavilion on The Esplanade at Balmoral Beach in Mosman, built in 1928-29 to a design by council architect Alfred Hale. It is a rare Sydney example of Spanish Mission style: rendered white walls, arched openings and a central tower under orange terracotta tiles. It served swimmers until 1969, then became a restaurant, and was heritage-listed in 1999. A 2019 refit added a bistro and opened up the beach terrace with a bar facing the water.
We photographed Sabine and Arthur’s wedding reception here after their ceremony at Bradleys Head. Balmoral’s beach and the rotunda are right outside for the golden-hour set, and the pavilion sits so close to the sand that the couple can step out between courses. It is a restaurant first, so the rooms are dressed for dinner rather than for a dance floor.
