Carlton Gardens is the 26-hectare Victorian-era park on the north-east edge of Melbourne’s CBD, bounded by Victoria, Rathdowne, Carlton and Nicholson Streets. The Royal Exhibition Building was completed in 1880 for the Melbourne International Exhibition, and building and gardens together were inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2004. The plantings are avenues of elms and plane trees; three fountains and two lakes sit in the southern half, Melbourne Museum in the north. It is a public portrait location, not a function venue.
Two of the days below passed through Carlton Gardens. Danielle and Michael stopped here for portraits between their ceremony in Preston and the Palladium at Crown, and Jip and Sarit’s pre-wedding session moved from Geelong Grammar School to Carlton Gardens, St Paul’s and Hosier Lane. Two earlier Merrimu Receptions weddings from 2019 also came here for the formal set.
