We were close to Becky and George as their Greek Orthodox Crowning Service unfolded at St Nicholas in Canberra: the shared cup, the priest leading them around the table, then a burst of confetti on the church steps. The mood loosened among the roses and pergolas of Old Parliament House Gardens, where we gave them space to enjoy their first portraits together. We took in the open lawns of Senate Gardens before heading to The Boat House in Barton. By sunset, Lake Burley Griffin had turned golden; inside, their Greek islander celebration was gathering pace.

Ceremony: St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Canberra · Portraits: Old Parliament House Gardens and Senate Gardens · Reception: The Boat House, Barton.
The priest led Becky and George around the ceremonial table beneath their joined crowns, and we stayed with the movement rather than interrupting it. Outside St Nicholas, guests sent them into the afternoon under a shower of confetti. In Canberra CBD, the rose beds and pergolas of Old Parliament House Gardens gave us a quieter rhythm for their garden wedding portraits. We crossed the lawns of Senate Gardens with the wedding party, then met everyone again at The Boat House. George took the microphone, guests filled the dance floor, and we stole a few minutes beside Lake Burley Griffin as the sun dropped. That little pause by the water gave them a breath before the celebration carried on.
At The Boat House, we could take Becky and George out beside Lake Burley Griffin for a few minutes without pulling them far from dinner and speeches. Earlier, Old Parliament House Gardens and Senate Gardens had given us roses, pergolas and wide lawns: a very different feel from the church and the lake. For a Canberra day with several stops, we'd leave enough breathing room between them and save a little time for the last light.
Planning a wedding at The Boat House in Barton? We'd love to help you make space for garden portraits, a relaxed reception and a few minutes by the lake at sunset.
Becky and George's Canberra CBD wedding took us through four settings, each with its own energy. At St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, we kept our attention on the Crowning Service. Old Parliament House Gardens and Senate Gardens gave them room to walk, laugh and gather the wedding party. At The Boat House, dinner and speeches drew everyone together before the dancing began.
Four stops can make a day feel rushed if every portrait is planned to the minute. With Becky and George, we kept the garden portraits focused and let the light guide the order. That gave them time to be together, not just move from one backdrop to the next.
For Canberra CBD wedding photography like this, we leave space after the ceremony for family photographs and congratulations before heading to the gardens. St Nicholas, the parliamentary gardens and the Barton reception are separate stops. A simple route, with one flexible portrait option, gives the couple more room to enjoy the afternoon and arrive at dinner unhurried.
At The Boat House, we could move between the reception and the lake without turning sunset portraits into another long journey. We had already photographed Becky and George among the garden roses; now the water gave us a quieter finish to the portrait story. The route brought garden wedding portraits and a waterside wedding reception together without pretending they were the same setting.
Planning a Canberra wedding with a few favourite places in mind? We'll help you find a route that leaves time for the people, the portraits and the moments you didn't plan.
