We began at Strathvea Guesthouse with Sarah's embroidered gown hanging on the verandah and the gardens waiting outside. By the time she and Jye met for their garden ceremony, this Healesville wedding had found its own easy pace. We followed them past the timber sheds to the paddock for country portraits — where a horse and pony joined the scene — then back beneath the trees for dinner and dancing. It was a Yarra Valley day full of little shifts in light, from the ceremony to the festoon-lit dance floor.

The story

Yarra Valley wedding photography at Strathvea

Preparation, garden ceremony, country wedding portraits and alfresco reception: Strathvea Guesthouse, Healesville, Yarra Valley. Both preparation settings, the rustic sheds and the horse and pony paddock are on the property.

Jye greeted Sarah with a kiss as she arrived at the garden ceremony. We stayed close for her reading and their ring exchange, then stepped back as the guests sent them off through a shower of confetti. The pace loosened at the timber sheds, where we photographed the wedding party before taking Sarah and Jye to the paddock fence. A horse leaned in beside them, with a pony just behind — one of those unscripted moments we love. Later, everyone came together around Strathvea's long outdoor tables for speeches. We kept photographing as dusk fell and Sarah and Jye danced beneath the festoon lights.

Garden and country wedding photography near Healesville

We used more than Strathvea's garden ceremony space. The white verandah gave us a quiet spot for Sarah's dress details, while the timber sheds and paddock fence brought a country feel to the portraits. By evening, the long tables beneath the trees felt like a natural place for everyone to gather. Local history records the guesthouse's early twentieth-century origins. For a Yarra Valley wedding here, we'd make time for those different corners of the property and let the light change before the dancing begins.
