A pillarless room, seven-metre ceilings, and eight hundred guests when the doors open
A ballroom wedding is the big-room reception: a hotel or event space turned for several hundred guests, with a stage, a dancefloor and production lighting that sets the colour of every picture. The Palladium at Crown in Southbank is the largest in Melbourne, a pillarless room with seven-metre ceilings that seats up to 1,500. Because the room is controlled, the photographs come from the people rather than the setting: the entrance, the first dance, the speeches and the crush of a full floor.
We photographed Danielle and Michael’s Palladium wedding after their ceremony at St Aphrem Syrian Orthodox Church in Preston and portraits in Carlton Gardens. Before the doors opened they used a terrace above the city at Crown as the towers lit up: five minutes of dusk that carried the album. Inside, the red ceiling lighting and the live stage shaped the reception frames, and the room’s width let us photograph the zaffe entrance and a full dancefloor from the back.

Seven small things that make a real difference on the day — learned across hundreds of weddings. None of them involve practising poses.
In motion, unposed · FR 15AYou don't need to perform or worry about what you look like. The best photos come from real moments: a glance, a laugh, a shared breath. Let go a little — we'll guide when needed, and the best unfolds naturally.
A little breathing room between getting ready, the ceremony and couple portraits makes all the difference. It gives us space for spontaneous shots — and gives you time to soak it all in.
A quiet lane, an open field, a textured wall — we love meaningful or interesting spots. Trust us to find great light, but if you've got a place you love, let's work it in.
Phones can distract from the emotion (and your photos). Asking guests to be fully present makes for cleaner frames and a more heartfelt atmosphere.
Clutter-free rooms with natural light are a photographer's dream, and calm energy in the morning sets the tone for the day. Keep the space tidy — or assign a friend to do a quick sweep before we arrive.
Especially during portraits — hydration and a little sugar go a long way in keeping energy and moods high.
We've worked at hundreds of weddings and we're here to make you look and feel amazing. Trust us with the light, the angles, the pace — we've got you.
Ask the production company what colour the room will be at each point of the night, because the lighting design decides the skin tones and we shoot with it rather than against it. A raised position at the back of the room gives the wide frame of the entrance; a second photographer on the floor gets the faces. Build the couple session outside the hotel into the timeline, since the room itself gives few portraits. The galleries below are the ballroom weddings we have photographed in full.
